An ordinand is a person who is getting ready to become a priest (or, in some churches, a minister). They have usually studied for a long time, and they are waiting for the special church ceremony that will make them a priest. You will almost only hear this word inside Christian church life — not in the street, not in a shop. It is a serious, rather old church word. Though actually, churches do not all use the same title: some say seminarian or candidate for ordination and mean a person at a nearby moment on the same path.
