Describes land, a building, or a room that sits on the edge of an ocean, facing the water. An oceanfront hotel has the sea right there; an oceanfront house stands on that strip of land. It is mainly American in flavour — British English often says . It is a selling word in travel and property, because the view and the sound of the sea are the point. Though actually, it is stricter than “near the sea”: a house three streets inland is not oceanfront, even if you can smell salt. Front here is the face, the edge.
