    正式used to say that something is still true or still happens, even though what you just said might make you expect the opposite.

    The test was hard. Nevertheless, Mei stayed calm and finished every question.

    「nevertheless」把兩件看起來相反的事接起來：前面先說一個情況，nevertheless 之後說「就算這樣，另一件事還是成立」。可以想成「即使前面那樣，後面這個照樣不變」。它比 but 正式、也比 however 更強調「照樣如此」，常用在寫作或正式談話，可以放句首、句中或句尾。

You can picture it as a hand that pushes an expectation back: I just told you something that would make you expect one result, and then I hold up my hand and say — even so, the other thing is still true. The word literally splits into 'never the less': what I just said makes it none the less so.

可以想成一隻把『預期』擋回去的手：我剛講的那件事會讓你以為結果是 A，然後我伸手一擋，說『就算這樣，B 還是成立』。這個字拆開來就是 never（一點也不）＋ the ＋ less（更少）——前面那句話並不會讓後面這件事『少一分』真實。
