A murderess is a woman who has murdered someone. The word is built in the old way: murder plus -ess, the ending that used to mark female. Though actually, many people now just say murderer for a man or a woman, because -ess can sound old-fashioned, or as if the woman's sex is the main point. You will still meet murderess in older books, in dramatic crime stories, and in headlines that want a strong, old tone.
