Moonlit means given light by the moon — that pale light on a path, a garden, water, or someone's face. A moonlit place is not as bright as day, but you can still see shapes. We use it before a noun: a moonlit night, moonlit water. It feels a little softer and prettier than just dark. Though actually, a night can be moonlit and still quite dim; it is not the same as street lights. The light itself is moonlight (a thing). Moonlit describes the place that has that light.
