You can think of 'money' as the thing you earn and hand over to get what you want — notes, coins, or a number in a bank account. From that one core, the senses spread two ways: narrower physical forms (cash, wealth, pay), and a big cloud of fixed phrases where 'money' stands for spending, betting, being rich, or being exactly right.
