Metaphorical describes something that is meant as a comparison or image to explain an idea, rather than something that is literally, exactly true. If someone says "my heart was on fire," that's metaphorical — their heart wasn't really burning, it's just a vivid way to describe strong feeling. It's the opposite of "literal," which means exactly what the words say.
