Lyricism is the gentle, song-like feeling in writing or music — that soft, romantic, emotional quality, as if the words or notes were meant to be sung. A poem can have lyricism even if nobody sings it; a piano piece can have lyricism with no words at all. People use it as praise: the lyricism of her writing. It is a school-and-review word, a little fancy, not a word for the dinner table. Though actually, it does not mean the words of a song (those are lyrics), and it does not mean the job of writing those words (that person is a lyricist). It names the mood, the quality.
