You can picture 'listing' as one line written into a list — a name, an item, an event set down in its proper row. The word comes straight from 'list': to make a listing is to enter something onto a list so it officially appears there. From that single picture — being written into the right list — every other use grows: a list of what's showing at the cinema, or being entered onto the official list of a stock exchange.

可以想成「被寫進一份清單裡的那一行」——一個名字、一個項目、一場活動，端端正正地登記在它那一格。這個字直接從 list（清單）來：做一個 listing，就是把某樣東西「列上去」，讓它正式出現在名單上。從這個畫面——被登錄進對的那份清單——其他用法都長出來了：電影院在播什麼的清單，或是被登錄進股票交易所的正式名冊。
