To interlace things is to join them by sending parts of one over, under, or around parts of the other — like fingers laced together, two colours of thread in a braid, or tree branches that have grown through each other. You can interlace your fingers. Writers also interlace two story lines, weaving them so they take turns. It is a bit craft-like and a bit . For shoes or a dress, people usually just say lace. For two ideas sitting next to each other but not woven, mix or put together is enough. The picture that matters is the over-and-under join, not a simple pile.
