If someone is hypocritical, they behave in a way that does not match what they claim to believe. The word is an adjective, and it always carries a : a hypocritical speech, a hypocritical rule, a hypocritical smile. It points at the , not at a simple change of mind. Though actually, people also use it for any double standard they dislike, even when the speaker never claimed to be perfect. Use it when there is a show of virtue that the actions quietly undo.
