A Hindu is someone whose religion is . You also hear Hindu as a describing word: a Hindu temple, Hindu festivals, Hindu names. Write it with a capital H. Most Hindus live in India, but though actually, Indian is about the country and Hindu is about the faith. Many Indians are not Hindu, and Hindus live in Nepal, Bali, and many other places too. Older English sometimes used Hindu more loosely for a person from India; careful speakers do not do that now. It is a normal, respectful, everyday name for people and their faith — not a joke and not a slur.
