Hereupon means “at this moment” or “right after this.” Something has just happened or just been said, and the next thing follows on from it. It is story-book and legal English, not café English. Older tales use it the way we now use then or at that: the king spoke, and hereupon the hall went quiet. In papers it can mean “on this matter, after this.” Before the 1600s people often wrote it as two words, here upon; now it is one word. It feels old-fashioned. In ordinary talk, say then, after that, or at this.
