Haughtily means doing something in a proud, cold, unfriendly way — as if you are above other people and they are a little dirty to you. It is how someone looks, speaks, or walks when they want the room to feel their rank. A person can say “no, thank you” kindly, or say it haughtily; the words may be polite while the manner is not. It is a rather bookish adverb: you will see it in novels and in careful description more than in chat, where people might say she looked so full of herself. It always judges the manner, not the height of the body.
