Gamey describes food, especially meat, that has the strong taste of wild animals people hunt — deer, duck, hare, and the like. The taste is deeper and wilder than farm meat, and some people love it while others find it too much. Meat that has been hung for a while can smell and taste more gamey. Cooks and use the word; it is normal in food talk, a little specialised, not slang. Though actually, the “game” here is the old meaning “wild animals hunted for food,” not video games, and not “I am game” meaning willing. Some people also spell it gamy; it is the same adjective.
