A fracture is a crack or break, most often used for bones — 'a fracture in his arm' means the bone is cracked or broken, though not always into separate pieces (a small crack is often called a 'hairline fracture'). 'Fracture' is also a verb — to fracture something is to crack or break it, and it can be used about relationships or groups too, meaning they split apart: 'the disagreement fractured the team.'
