If something is floppy, it is soft and hangs or bends down instead of staying stiff and straight. Floppy ears fall; a floppy hat brim droops over your eyes; plants go floppy when they need water. The word is everyday and a little informal. Though actually, floppy can sound slightly weak, not only soft in a nice way — a floppy handshake does not feel sure. People also used floppy as a noun for the old soft computer disk, because that little square was not hard like the later kind. That name grew out of the same idea: not stiff.
