Fantastical describes things that feel strange, unreal, and a bit magical — like a fairy tale, a dream, or a story that could not happen in ordinary life. Dragons, floating cities, and wild inventions can all be fantastical. The word sits next to fantastic, but though actually they have drifted apart in daily talk: people now say fantastic when they only mean “very good,” while fantastical still keeps the older “not of this world” feeling. You will meet it more in books and reviews than in the street.

組成From the same line as fantastic: Greek phantastikos (“of imagination / of images”), borrowed into Late Latin as phantasticus, then into English. The -al ending makes this form an adjective.
