Eyeless means there are no eyes there. A doll with a blank face can be eyeless. Some animals that live in dark caves never grew eyes, so they are eyeless too. Writers like the word because it feels old and serious, a little like a story in a book. In ordinary talk, people more often just say with no eyes. Though actually, eyeless is not the same as blind. A blind person usually still has eyes. Eyeless is about the eyes not being there at all — or, in a poem, about a face that feels as if it cannot look back.
