A moral belief or principle about what is right and wrong, especially one that guides how a person or group behaves — most often you hear it in the phrase 'work ethic,' meaning someone's attitude toward working hard and doing a good job. 'Ethic' by itself (singular) is less common than the plural 'ethics,' which is the whole system or study of right and wrong.
