    Caught up in something in a messy, twisted way, so it's hard to get free. It's used literally, like hair, string, or a fishing net that gets twisted together in knots. It's also used about people and situations — if you're 'entangled' in a problem, an argument, or a messy relationship, you're stuck in it in a way that's hard to pull out of.
