An emanation is what comes out — the smell, the light, the warmth, or the quality that seems to flow from a person or a place. It is the noun beside . So you might speak of an emanation of heat from a wall, or of an emanation of perfume in a lift. The word is formal and a little old-fashioned in everyday English; people usually name the smell or the light itself. Though actually, in older religious and philosophical writing, emanation can also mean a power or being that flows out from a higher source. Most will not need that sense first. Start with something given off.
