If you do something dutifully, you do it because you believe that is the correct way to behave — the adverb twin of dutiful. Children dutifully line up; a guest dutifully admires the photos. As with the adjective, it can be kind, or it can be a little dry: the action is proper, but it may not be eager. It tells you about manner, not about skill. You can dutifully attend a class you do not love. It belongs to the same slightly careful, grown-up register as dutiful; you will hear it in stories and in gentle teasing more than in very casual chat.
