Ducal means “of a duke” or “like a duke.” A ducal palace is a duke’s palace; ducal lands are a duke’s lands. It is a formal, rather old-fashioned adjective. You meet it in history, art, and travel writing about Europe. People do not use it about ordinary modern life unless they are being fancy or talking about titles. Though actually, it does not mean “rich” or “grand” by itself — it only points to a duke. A small, tired house could still be ducal if a duke owned it.
