    A drop-in place offers a service or support that you can use without booking first. You walk in when you need it: a drop-in clinic, a drop-in centre, a drop-in session for advice. It is a warm, practical word, common with community, health, and youth services. You will also hear it as a noun: there is a drop-in on Tuesdays. Though actually, this is not the same as dropping in on a friend at home, even though it comes from that idea. A friend's home is a private visit. A drop-in centre is an organised place that has chosen to work without appointments.
