To talk for a long time in a low, flat, boring voice — the picture is a low machine hum, or the sound of bees. Always a complaint; nobody drones on in a good way. No object: you drone on, or drone on ABOUT something. (The flying 'drone' is the same word — named after the bee sound — though actually most people never connect the two.)
