You can picture a box that lives inside a piece of furniture and slides out when you pull it. The word is really the verb draw ('pull') turned into a thing, named after the one move it makes: you draw it out, you push it back.

可以想成一個住在家具裡的盒子，你一拉它就滑出來。這個字其實就是動詞 draw（拉）變成的名詞，用「它會做的那個動作」來命名：拉出來，推回去。

From the word’s history

Attested from the 1570s as an agent noun from draw — 'a box-shaped receptacle that can be drawn or pulled out of a cabinet, bureau, table, etc., by sliding it horizontally'. Earlier, drawer had meant 'one who draws water from a well' (mid-14c.).

1570 年代就有這個用法，是從動詞 draw 造出來的名詞，指「可以從櫃子、書桌裡水平拉出來的盒狀容器」。更早（14 世紀中）drawer 指的是「打水的人」，也就是「拉的人」。所以家具的抽屜和「拉」是同一件事，看到 draw 就想得到它。
