To disprove something is to show that it is wrong, or not true. You do not merely dislike the idea; you bring facts, a test, or a clear counter-example, and the claim falls down. Scientists try to disprove a theory. A lawyer may disprove a story with dates and records. The word is a little more careful than “prove wrong”, but it is not rare. Though actually, you disprove a statement, a theory, or a — not a person. You cannot really “disprove someone”; you disprove what they said.
