A dinghy is a small open boat — no cabin over your head — used for pleasure on a lake or river, or as a ship's tender: the little boat that carries people between a big ship and the shore. It may have oars, a small sail, or a little motor. An inflatable dinghy is the rubber kind you blow up. Sailors use the word as ordinary kit, not as slang. Say it about DING-ee. Though actually, on the page it looks like (dirty), which is a different word and usually sounds like DIN-jee — mix those two up and you have either a filthy boat or a boat-like corridor.
