Detestation is the strong feeling of hating someone or something very much. It names the hate; it is not an action word. Her detestation of lies means she hates lying a lot. It is formal and a bit . In speech people usually say hate or hatred. You will meet it in writing more than at the table. Though actually, you cannot detestation a person. You detest them, or you feel detestation for them. An older phrase, hold in detestation, means the same, but it sounds quite old now.
