If you are dejected, you look and feel thrown down: unhappy, disappointed, and without much lift for a moment. It is stronger than “a bit sad” and quieter than angry. You read it on a face, in slumped shoulders, after a loss, a hard no, or bad news. It is a useful adjective, a little more than down; everyday speech also says down, gutted, or fed up, depending how sharp the feeling is. A dejected team, a dejected sigh, a dejected look. It describes the person or the look, not the action (that job belongs to dejectedly).
