Information or facts collected for use, for example in a study or report.

Picture a pile of collected facts and figures — measurements, numbers, records — gathered together to be looked at and used. 'Data' is the raw material you reason from: the facts you've collected before you draw any conclusion. Whether it sits in a notebook or inside a computer is just where it's kept.
可以想成一堆蒐集起來的事實和數字——測量值、數據、紀錄——被聚在一起，等著被檢視、被使用。data 比較像你用來推論的原始材料：在你下任何結論之前，先收集好的那些事實。至於它是寫在筆記本上、還是存在電腦裡，只是「放在哪」的差別而已。
