From the word’s history

Latin cursor meant 'runner' (from currere, 'to run'); it was borrowed into English for the sliding part of a slide rule — the little marker that runs along the scale — and that running-marker sense carried straight over to the screen.

拉丁文 cursor 原意是「跑者」，來自 currere（跑）。這個字先被用在計算尺上：尺上那個可以沿著刻度來回滑動的小標記，就叫 cursor——它真的在「跑」。電腦螢幕出現後，這個「沿著跑、指出所在位置」的畫面原封不動被搬過來，成了今天的游標。
