If you move crabwise, you move sideways — like a crab walking. You can say he slid crabwise along the wall or a crabwise step. It works as an adjective or as an adverb. People also stretch it a little: a plan that moves crabwise is not going straight at the goal, but along. It is not a street word; it sounds a bit like writing, or like a small joke. You would not use it for ordinary walking down a road.
