    Confinement is the state of being kept in a small space and not allowed to leave — most seriously, being kept in prison, but also used for being stuck somewhere because of illness (" to bed") or being kept somewhere against your will. In older or Chinese-influenced English, you may also see "confinement" used for the period of rest after childbirth — matching the idea of 坐月子.
