Commercialism is when making money becomes the main point — more important than whether the thing is good, true, or kind. A festival that used to be about family fills up with ads. A sport that used to be about the game sells every empty space on a shirt. People say this word when they are unhappy about that. It is not a calm school-book word; it carries a little . Though actually, the same person may enjoy cheap, well-sold things and still complain about commercialism. The word points at the “money first” attitude, not at every shop.
