People also use it for anything that is being made 'pure' again, like 'a cleansing breath' (a deep breath that helps you feel calmer). It sounds a little more gentle and caring than the plain word 'clean' — a shop sells 'cleansing' products, not 'cleaning' products, when it wants that softer feeling.
