A carillon is a set of bells hung in a tower and played from a keyboard, rather like a very large piano, so one person can sound many bells in a tune. The word also means a piece of music played on those bells. You find carillons on churches and old university towers. It is a rare, slightly fancy word borrowed from French; most people would just say the bells or the tower bells. Though actually a carillon is not the same as a clock that only strikes the hour: it can play real songs. There is a verb to carillon, but you will almost never need it.
