Captivating describes a person, place, or thing that holds your attention because it is so attractive or interesting. A captivating smile, a captivating film, a captivating speaker. It comes from : if something you, you can call it captivating. It is a compliment, a little literary. Friends might just say “so interesting” or “I couldn’t look away”; a review will say captivating. Though actually, because it is a compliment, it can sound like advertising if you put it on everything.
