Blotchy describes a surface — very often skin — that is not one even colour, but covered with . A blotchy face looks patchy: some parts redder, paler, or more marked than others. Heat, tears, make-up that has gone wrong, or a rash can make skin blotchy. Paper, paint, or a wall can be blotchy too if the colour did not go on smoothly. It is an everyday, slightly critical adjective; ordinary people say it, and so do doctors, but it is not a fancy medical term.
