A bloodline is all the members of a family of people or animals over a period of time — parents, children, grandchildren, and so on. Breeders of horses, dogs, and cattle use it a lot when they care who an animal’s parents were. For people it can sound formal or old-fashioned (“a royal bloodline”); everyday talk often just says family. It is about descent, not about the red liquid in your veins, and it is not blood type (A, B, AB, O). Some speakers stretch it to mean the “true line” of a tradition or a school of art.
