Belligerent describes someone who is ready and eager to fight or argue — an angry, aggressive attitude, often over something small. You could call a rude customer or an angry drunk man 'belligerent.' In a more formal, historical sense, a 'belligerent' (as a noun) is a country that is officially at war.
