Picture a big open floor with seats rising all the way around it. Whoever steps onto that floor is in the middle, with nowhere to hide — every seat is pointed at them, and whatever happens down there happens in front of everyone. That shape is the whole word: an open space, a ring of , and something being contested in the centre.
