An apothecary was someone who mixed and sold medicines in the past — the person behind the counter who weighed powders, made up bottles, and knew the old recipes. Before the modern , this was the usual English word. You meet it in history, in Shakespeare, and in stories that want an old-fashioned flavour; you would not walk into a Taiwan 藥局 and ask for the apothecary. Though actually, the word named both the person and, loosely, the shop. It can sound quaint now, which hides how serious the work was: people trusted this mixer with their health.
