Accountancy is the job — and the whole field of work — of keeping money records, checking them, and working out tax. If someone says they are “in accountancy,” they mean they work as an accountant or in that kind of office. This word is more British. In American English, and in most Taiwan textbooks, people say accounting for the same idea. Accountancy names the profession; it is not the everyday verb “to account for,” and it is not one person’s job title (that person is an accountant).
